Gambling gang busted, 8 held

Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a gang of gamblers with the arrest of eight persons from J J Colony in northwest Delhi's Wazirpur area here.

Cash, phones and other items used for gambling were recovered from them.

"Following a tip-off that some boys in front of a house in J J Colony were involved in betting, cops raided the address and eight persons were held," said DCP (North-West) N Gnana Sambandan.

The accused were identified as Shiva, Sunny, Rohit, Bhagwan Singh, Rahul, Vinod, Rohit and Rakesh. Rs 30,240 in cash, five mobile phones, four paper pads, four pens and two pairs of playing cards used for gambling purposes were recovered from them. Four of them were involved in gambling for money and four were involved in betting, the DCP said.
 

On interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had been indulging in betting for the last few months. They generally received calls on their mobile phones. The caller would choose a particular number and in the evening it was informed whether he won or lost, according to the police.
