A 52-year old pawnbroker was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified persons and jewels and cash worth around Rs.1.5 crores looted from his shop in a busy locality near the municipal bus terminal here today, police said.

On receipt of information from the brother of the deceased who had come to the shop, police rushed to the spot and found the pawn broker lying in a pool of blood with his neck slit.

Police suspect that an unidentified gang would have come to the shop on the pretext of pledging jewels, committed the crime and decamped with the jewels and cash.
