Gang making & selling spurious scotch busted; four held

State excise department today arrested four persons for allegedly making and selling spurious scotch of different brands, and seized fake liquor worth Rs 14 lakh during a raid at Lower Parel in central Mumbai, officials said.

The flying squad of the excise department conducted the raid at Mogal House on N M Joshi Marg in Lower Parel, where the accused used to fill old bottles of liquor brands with the spurious scotch prepared there. Thereafter, they used to sell these bottles in the market, they said.

The arrested accused were identified as Biju Gangadhar Tiya (33), Atishkumar Mohandas P (25), Sumit Behal (26) and Tarvindar Singh (31).
 

The kingpin of the racket, identified as Chandra Shankaran Kakkoteil, is absconding.

Further investigation into the case is on.
