Police have arrested five members of an inter-state gang for their alleged involvement in several cases of robbery on National Highway 58.

The accused have been identified as Rohit, Sumit, Mayank, Sanjay and Omprakash, all residents of Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap and arrested the five accused yesterday when they were coming towards National Highway 58 near Duhari, a senior police officer said.

Two cars, motorcycles, a bag of precious stones, a laptop, 60 mobile phones, three guns and two knives were recovered from their possession, he said.

According to the police, the accused used to pose as taxi drivers or passengers at the main bus stops of different cities. They would then rob the victims of money, ATM cards and other valuables at gunpoint on the highway, alight them from the vehicle and escape from the spot.
