An inter-state gang allegedly involved in smuggling of arms and ammunition was today unearthed following the arrest of two persons in Sardhana village here.
The accused, Shakeel and Zulfikar, used to smuggle arms and ammunition to notorious criminals operating in western Uttar Pradesh and adjacent states, SSP (Meerut) DK Dubey said.
Acting on a tip-off about the delivery of an illegal consignment, police laid a trap and apprehended the duo yesterday, they said.
Six automatic and a country-made pistol along with their cartridges have been recovered from their possession and further investigations are on, they said.
