With the arrest of two persons and recovery of 10 stolen vehicles on their instance, Delhi police today claimed to have busted a gang of auto-lifters, solving over a dozen cases of vehicle thefts in the city.

Two accused Mustaffa and Khurshid were arrested and two juveniles were detained, said DCP of North Delhi Madhur Verma.

The cases of vehicle thefts had picked up in Katra Neel and Chandani Chowk, coming under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. The cops analysed footage of around 1000 CCTV cameras there and spotted two juveniles, he said.

The accused were found stealing motor cycles. Their images were forwarded in the Whatsapp group among the cops and informers.

Later, information was gathered about the juveniles and they were apprehended. Interrogation of the duo led the police to raid several areas of Delhi and NCR and recovery of ten bikes.

Mustaffa and Khurshid who were buying the stolen vehicles were also arrested by the cops on the basis of information provided by the juvenile accused, the DCP said.

Meanwhile, all the accused are booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the two minors are sent to juvenile home. Police are now trying to find out whether these same criminals are involved in more such similar cases.
