Gang of college students held for bike, cellphone thefts

Four college students and a school dropout of a gang, wanted in connection with a case of attempt to kidnap and theft of bikes as well as high-end cellphones, were today arrested from Gandhi Nagar here, police said.

The accused collegians Ninavath Vinod Kumar, N Santosh, V Chandrasekhar, N Hanvma and school dropout G Sateesh were arrested, police said adding that their juvenile friend, too, has been apprehended.

The accused were involved in snatching high-value cellphones from female pedestrians in Banjara Hills area and also committed two-wheeler thefts, they said.

In May 2014, the accused had stolen a bike from Lower Tank Bund here. Thereafter, they also hatched a plan to kidnap a school boy for ransom in Amangal area in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana, police said.
 

However, when they tried to kidnap the boy, they were chased by people and failed to execute the plan and hence left the two-wheeler before fleeing.
