The Delhi Police has busted a gang of alleged inter-state auto lifters and seized over 35 stolen vehicles, including cars and bikes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Seju P Kurvilla said the four-member gang was busted near Sultanpuri bus terminal on Thursday.
Shalim (23), a resident of Sambhal, Noshad (25), Shanu (26) and Shah Aalam (22) residents of Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh were arrested while they were travelling on a goods carrier with three stolen bikes, the deputy commissioner said in a release.
Acting on a tip-off, the cops had barricaded the Sultanpuri bus terminal area and the suspects were apprehended while trying to escape leaving the vehicles behind, police said.
The gang used to steal vehicles from various parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Delhi, and sell them as financed vehicles.
"The accused disclosed that they had stolen vehicles from various parts of Delhi and after stealing the vehicles, they used to hire container vehicles and supply the same to other states as per demand," police added.
