With the arrest of three persons, including two police home guards, police today claimed to have busted a gang of looters.

The three accused robbed one Ankit Rathore of Rs 50,000, finger ring and purse on the pretext of mobile recharge on April 28, Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said.

The trio then barged into the house of one Sabeena Begam and looted Rs 11,570 and gold finger ring on April 29, he said.

In both the cases, a black-yellow motor cycle, with 'Press' written on it, surfaced, he added.

Police today nabbed Kamar Alam who was riding the same motor cycle on the highway near Chakeri, the SSP said.

During interrogation, Alam said that he was a journalist and was given a 'Press' card by a person working in a Mumbai-based news channel.

Alam said that he, along with two police home guards, would loot shopkeepers, the SSP said.

The home guards, identified as Devendra Singh and Jeevan Chatterji, were subsequently nabbed, who confessed to the crimes, police said.

Two country-made pistols, one big knife, four cartridges, two finger rings, Rs 21,000 cash and the motor cycle bearing 'Press' sign were seized from them, he said.

The trio has several criminal cases registered against them at Chakeri police station, the SSP said, adding, efforts are on to nab other members of the gang.
