Gang of pickpockets busted in Delhi, 3 arrested

Delhi police today claimed to have busted a gang of pickpockets, with the arrest of three persons who targeted crowded buses on the Ring Road stretch in northwest Delhi.

The arrested have been identified as Nand Kishore (45), Tanvir Alam (43) and Deepak Pathak (53), DCP (Northwest) Vijay Singh said, adding that the gang used to target its victims with weapons.

The gang used to follow crowded buses, in which their own people were deployed. They were mostly active on the Ring Road stretch in northwest Delhi, he said.

The police also recovered one country made pistol and six live cartridges from their possession, Singh said.
 

During interrogation, Nand Kishore told the police that he heads several such gangs of pick pockets comprising of around 25 persons, including women.

The gang mainly looked for laptops and other valuable items. If people resisted, they used to pull out their guns, police added.
