Gang of robbers busted in J-K, nine held

Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have busted a gang of burglars in north Kashmir's Baramulla district by arresting its nine members and recovering stolen goods worth lakhs of rupees.

The gang was unearthed after police in Sopore town of the district arrested two persons for allegedly stealing goods worth lakhs of rupees from a cloth merchant at Chankhan, police said.

During the investigation of the case, police received a tip off regarding one of the accused Irshad Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Izatshah Colony Ningli, for being involved in burglaries.

Bhat was arrested and during questioning he confessed to his involvement in the crime along with his associate Tariq Ahmad Naikoo, they said, adding that the arrest of the duo led to the recovery of stolen properties from the shop.
 

Their further interrogation led to the arrest of seven other members of the gang - Mohammad Saleem Sheikh, Aatif Aijaz Shah, Abdul Rashid Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Malla, Sajad Ahmad Dar, Bashir Ahmad Baba and Mohammad Rafiq Kana - all residents of Sopore.

Police also recovered 50 wedding suits, 120 copper utensils, two computer systems and three gas cylinders among others from them.

A case has been registered against the accused, they added.
