With the arrest of five persons, Punjab police today claimed to have smashed a gang of robbers, who used to commit crime by wearing uniforms.
The police also recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession.
Patiala Inspector General of Police (IGP) Paramjit Singh Gill, in an official statement here, said that during interrogation, the gang members said that they had committed incidents of robbery in the areas of district Rupnagar and Pinjor (Haryana).

The accused have been identified as Harinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Harjit Singh, Barinder Singh and Harinder Singh (son of Mohinder Singh) all residents of different villages of Rupnagar, he said.
The gang members had snatched cash of Rs 1.68 Crore from the guards of a van belonging to a company on the Siswan Baddi road recently, he said.
Besides, the gang members had also snatched Rs 11.41 lakh from a Chandigarh resident who was travelling in his car recently, he said.
The gang members were arrested from Rangilpur Nadi in Rupnagar when they were allegedly conspiring to commit another robbery, he said.
Police recovered two double-barrel guns, three .32-bore revolvers, 14 live cartridges, three knives, besides cash worth Rs 4.65 lakh from them, he said.
