Gang of seven headed by woman busted

Seven members of gang involved in various loot and robbery cases over the past two months, have been arrested here, police said today.

The gang is headed by a woman named Mamata Meena, they added.

The culprits were arrested on Wednesday night and were produced before the local court yesterday. They have been sent to remand of three days, Superintend of Police (SP), Kota city Dr Amandeep Singh Kapoor said.

"In view of rising crimes of loot and robbery in the area, a special team was constituted that had been constantly carrying out raids for last 15 days to nab the culprits. On a tip of, a raid was carried out in Railway colony area of the city late on Wednesday night and arrested the head of the gang and six others," Kapoor said.
 

During the interrogation, culprits admitted to have committed four incidents of loot and robbery between February 10 to April 7, he added.

The gang leader Mamata Meena hails from Gangapur district of the state and was currently operating Self Help Groups (SHGs) and a micro financing company, police said.

She targeted mainly businessmen and traders and kept a close watch on the victims, formulated a plan and would later send the gang members to commit the crime, they said.

More cases of loot and robbery are likely to be disclosed after the remand period is completed, Kapoor said.
