Four persons posing as Income Tax officers today locked a couple in their house near here and decamped with 55 sovereigns of gold and Rs 3.5 lakh cash, police said.

The gang entered the house in the wee hours and pretended to search it posing as IT officials, they said, adding that they then locked the 55-year-old man and his wife in a room and decamped with the valuables.

Police said the man was earlier employed as a driver in Dubai but had returned a few weeks ago following ill-health.
