Five armed miscreants looted passengers in a train running between Samastipur and Saharsa stations in Bihar and shot and injured a passenger, police said today.

Railway Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravish Kumar said four jawans of GRP, who were part of the escort party, have been suspended on charges dereliction of duty.

"The train had started at 9 pm from Samastipur railway junction yesterday. Five armed masked miscreants suddenly started robbing passengers in two coaches before the train reached Khagaria. They escaped after pulling the chain before Koparia station," Kumar said.

He said that the gang shot 19-year-old Bhim Kumar when he resisted them. He has been admitted to Saharsa Railway Hospital.

An FIR has been lodged regarding the incident.
