The police today claimed to have busted a gang of mobile phone thieves by arresting two of its members, who after stealing handsets sold those on an e-commerce website.

Lucky Jaiswal and Ankit Singh were arrested yesterday from the KDA Chowk at Chakeri here, ASP Kanpur Gaurav Banswal said.

The duo used to roam the city on a motorcycle and snatch expensive mobile phones from pedestrians, the officer said.

During interrogation, the accused said they used to switch-off and throw away the SIM card of the stolen phone before putting it on sale on an e-commerce website that sells second hand items, he said.

Five stolen mobile phones were recovered from them along with Rs 10,000 cash, the ASP said, adding the motorcycle has also been seized.

The police is looking for other members of the gang, he said.
