Gang which stole iron blooms arrested

The Harbour police today arrested a six-member gang involved in the theft of six loads of iron blooms, each load weighing about 23 tonnes, from the port area.

The arrested men were identified as Ch Seetha Reddy (26), N Venkata Kranthi Kumar (27), N Santhosh (22), N Suryanarayana (30), Pudi Yerrayya (21) and G Y Kishore.

ACP Phalguna Rao said the gang had stolen iron blooms worth about Rs 25.2 lakh.

Police recovered 23 tonnes, worth about Rs 4.2 lakh, and Rs 4.06 lakh in cash from them.

The gang had targeted iron blooms transported by Srivalli Shipping Company.

Seetha Reddy, the gang leader, befriended drivers of the tractor trailers and stole the blooms with their collaboration, the ACP said.
