Gangtok awarded 'Cleanest Tourist Destination'

Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, has been named as the 'Cleanest City Destination' by the Union Ministry of Tourism.

The award was received from the Prime Minister by the Commissioner, Gangtok Municipal Corporation in New Delhi on September 30, an official release said here today.

The Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, nodal Ministries responsible for implementing the flagship programme Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban and Gramin), jointly organised a day-long national workshop 'INDOSAN' at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Friday.

The workshop which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister saw the participation of Union Ministers of the Ministries concerned, Chief Ministers of many states and Ministers in-charge of Swachh Bharat Mission.
 

The Sikkim delegation was led by state Minister, Urban Development and Housing Development, N K Subba, Mayor GMC, PCE/Secretary- UD and HD, Municipal Commissioner, State Mission Directors (Urban and Gramin), Officials and Panchayats, ADCs-Development Namchi and Gyalshing.

The delegates from Sikkim participated in the workshop, particularly in the technical session on Sanitation Technologies, Solid-Liquid Waste Management, inclusive Sanitationand Role of IT and Technology in SBM.

A plenary session on Inter-Ministerial collaboration was also conducted, the release said.
