Two revenue inspectors (RIs) were suspended by Ganjam district administration on charges of irregularities and dereliction of duty in enumerating houses damaged in Cyclone Phailin, official sources said today.

While the RI of Bada Ramachandrpur circle in Ganjam block was suspended yesterday for alleged irreguarities in enumeration of houses damaged in cyclone Phailin and payment of compensation at Nuapali, the RI OF Gangapur RI circle was removed for dereliction of duty.

In the first case, the irregularities came to the fore during an inquiry by the additional sub-collector, assistant collector Dipti Mohapatra said adding the administration has issued a show cause notice to the concerned revenue supervisor.

The inquiry was ordered on December 20 when CPI-M had raised the matter and staged a demonstration at the Ganjam block office demanding re-enumeration of houses damaged.

The Gangapur RI did not enumerate the houses damaged in his area and allegedly failed to attend to complaints of cyclone and flood victims.

Sub-collector of Bhanjangar A K Jena recommended his suspension, the sources said.

Earlier, the district admnistration had suspended the RI of Mantridi in Rangeilunda tehsil for alleged irregularities in the enumeration of houses damaged in the cyclone.
