Gardens of Rashtrapati Nilayam to open for public tomorrow

The gardens of Rashtrapati Nilayam, the official retreat of the President of India in Hyderabad, will be thrown open to public from tomorrow.

The garden will be remain open for public viewing from January 3 to 10 from 10 AM to 5 PM, an official statement said.

The gardens of Rashtrapati Nilayam include Landscaped Gardens, Herbal Gardens, Nakshatra Vatika, seasonal flower plants, display of potted plants around the main building and orchard which include mango, sapota, pomegranate, guava, amla, coconut and cheeku.

The herbal garden, spread over 7,000 sq mts, has about 116 species of medicinal and aromatic plants including Khus, sarpagandha, kalabandha, citronella, lemon grass, geranium, coriander, sandalwood, tuber rose, jasmine, kalmegh, tulsi.

The Nakshatra Vatika includes 48 trees and plants representing Navgrahas (nine planets), 12 rashi (zodiacs) and Twenty-seven Nakshatra (stars).

Besides these, peepal, banyan and bilva trees have been placed at appropriate locations in the Nakshatra Vatika.

The President stays at least once a year in Rashtrapati Nilayam and conducts official business from there. It is also used as a guest house for visiting dignitaries.

Last year, more than 75,000 people visited the gardens during its annual opening.
