Garhwal Regimental Centre clerk arrested for taking bribe

CBI has arrested a clerk working at Garhwal Regimental Centre in Lansdowne while allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs four lakh for processing pension claim of an employee.

CBI sources said Pratap Singh, an upper divisional clerk working in 'Q' office of Garhwal Regimental Centre, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant.

The sources said an employee of Garhwal Regimental Centre had alleged that the accused had demanded bribe of Rs 8 lakh which was to be paid in two instalments of Rs 4 lakh each.

Based on the input, the agency asked the complainant to agree to the demand so that the accused could be caught red-handed.
 

"CBI laid a trap and caught the accused. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused which led to recovery of Rs 55 lakh (approx) in cash and documents related to various investments and properties. The arrested accused was produced today in the court of special judge, CBI Cases, Dehradun," CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said here today.
