The garland, parrot made of betal leaves which Goddess Aandal holds on her right hand and "Parivattam" (Silk shawl) adorned by the Goddess in the famour Vaishnavite temple here, were taken in procession before being sent to Tirumala from here today, a temple official said.

The Garland would be adorned to Lord Venkatachalapathy during the fifth day of the on-going Brahmotsavam at Tirupathi, the official K Ravichandran said.

Legend has it that Goddess Aandal, a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu and said to be an incarnation of one of His consorts, used to wear the Garland made by her father Periyazhwar every day imagining herself to be the bride of the Lord. Her father who saw her one day wearing the garland meant for the Lord, got furious and reprimanded her and prepared another garland. But the Lord refused to accept the new one telling him that He wanted only the Garland worn by Sri Andal.
