Giving a relief to exporters of garments and made-ups, the government today said as a transitional arrangement for the period July-September 2017, the exporter may claim remission of state levies at the rates prior to introduction of GST.

Under the remission of state levies (RoSL), garments and made-ups exporters are entitled to get refunds of levies paid at the state level from the Centre.

The exporters were demanding the retention of RoSL under the duty drawback scheme. The scheme was announced by the government last year as part of a Rs 6,000-crore package for the sector.

"In order to support exporters of garments and made-ups, the government has announced as a transitional arrangement that for the period July 1 to September 30, 2017, the exporter may claim RoSL at the rates prior to introduction of GST," the Textiles Ministry said in a statement.

Garment exporters had urged the government to continue the RoSL in the current form under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
