Gastroenteritis outbreak claims life in Punjab

The victim has been identified as Pawan Kumar. He was referred to Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences, Jalandhar but his relatives took him directly to PGI, Chandigarh where he died due to gastroenteritis last night, Naresh Kansra, SMO of the Civil Hospital, Dasuya said.

With admission of 24 gastroenteritis patients in the civil hosptial today, a total of 166 cases have come to light, Kansra said, adding that mixing of sewerage water in the water supply pipe line was the major cause of the outbreak.

111 patients have been discharged so far, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Dipinder Singh today met a number of patients in the hospital.
