Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who was scheduled to address a public meeting in Tral township in south Kashmir this morning, was placed under house arrest, the hardline Hurriyat Conference said.
"Geelani was not allowed by police to leave his Hyderpora residence this morning for Tral town where he was to address a public meeting," it said in a statement here.
Condemning the move, the Hurriyat said "this tantamounts to government's admission that it has failed to fight Geelani politically."
