Expressing concern over declining sex ratio in the state, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today urged people to eradicate the social evil of female foeticide.
"Sex ratio in the state is declining. It is alarming trend and if continues, the situation may turn worst from bad," Gehlot said at a function in SriGanganagar district.
"People, in the area where girls are not available, have to marry their sons at distant places like North-East or other regions.
"It is not easy for girls from these areas to adjust in culture here, so they ultimately go back," he said, while urging people to not disturb this balance.
Gehlot also highlighted a recently introduced scheme under which the state government will provide financial aid to the girl's family on her birth.
He said Rs 2100 will be given at the birth of a girl child whereas similar amount will be given on completion of a year. Rs 3100 will be given when the girl turns five and starts going to school.
Gehlot was speaking at the unveiling of former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram's statue at Gajsinghpur area in the SriGanganagar district which was also attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, the daughter of ex Dy PM.
The CM said he was inspired by the thoughts of Jagjivan Ram and motivated new generation for the same.
