To encourage research in the field of environment, the Gujarat Environment Management Institute (GEMI) today said it will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh to scholars and students for the purpose.
An autonomous institute of the Gujarat government, GEMI today said that any under-graduate, post-graduate and doctoral student will be eligible for up to Rs 5 lakh assistance as per financial proposal presented by him after a successful research outcome.
A doctorate from the state with a minimum three years of experience will also be eligible for a financial support of up to Rs 10 lakh, it said.
"The financial assistance will be given after projects leading to environmental solutions or excellence in the field of environment are thoroughly scrutinised by an expert committee constituted for this purpose," the institute said in a research policy document unveiled today.
The document was today unveiled at an event here by the Minister of State for Environment, Shankar Chaudhary to mark world environment day.
The institute has also sought research and development proposal in environment from a doctorate from the state with a minimum three years of experience. If his research proposal is selected, he shall be eligible for a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to "cover manpower, consumables, contingency and inland travel apart from overhead cost."
The proposal for the same can be submitted till June 30, it said.
At the event, Chaudhary also unveiled the GEMI's laboratory vision document which envisages a world-class laboratory for the institute and more international collaboration among other things.
Addressing a gathering, Chaudhary expressed concerns over the growing human-animal conflict and said that his government has made several programmes, and laws as institutes are working to spread awareness about this.
"Government is working in all possible ways to spread awareness about environmental conservation. But we need public participation, a mass revolution to preserve our environment," he said.
