The 68-year-old, who revolutionised the world of special effects, is winding down his commitments so he can indulge in his first love of non-commercial filmmaking, reported Empire magazine online.
"I'm moving away from the company, I'm moving away from all my businesses. I'm finishing all my obligations and I'm going to retire to my garage with my saw and hammer and build hobby movies. I've always wanted to make movies that were more experimental in nature, and not have to worry about them showing in movie theaters," said the "Indiana Jones" creator said.
There is a possibility that people may not take his claims seriously as he has made similar comments in the past too.
In January, Lucas said, "I am retiring" and while promoting his most recent film "Red Tails", which he produced, he had said, "I am moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff."
He also made similar comments when "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" was released in 2005.
