'Game of Thrones' author George R R Martin has hinted that his fantasy story, which has been adapted for HBO's hit series of the same name, may head to the big screen in future.

The fourth season of the series, which revolves around a bunch of noble families fight for the legendary throne, is set to debut soon.

Martin says the prospect is being actively discussed, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like USD 100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know," the author said.

Martin said another possibility could be doing a movie on Tales of Dunk and Egg, a series of three prequel novellas.

"They could be the basis for (a film).I have written these three stories, and I have about a dozen more," Martin said during the premiere of the show in New York.
