Germany Ambassador to India Michael Steiner today visited Super 30 academy of mathematician Anand Kumar and hailed the achievements of the institution as "fantastic".
Steiner, accompanied by wife Eliese Steiner, sat with the students in their classroom and talked to students for hours.
"It's a unique institution of its kind in the world," the German Ambassador said and patted the back of Anand Kumar, founder of Super 30 which prepares students from underprivileged class to qualify for IITs.
"It's a bunch of committed students who have eagerness to do something great in life," he told reporters after a face-to-face talks with the students.
Steiner told the students that they should not limit themselves to books but "open their mind" to happenings around the world. "You shall know what educational institutions in Germany, US and other countries are doing," he said, stressing on interlinking of such institutions in different countries.
The German ambassador said his country has tremendous scope for talented engineers and invited students to come to Germany for higher studies to satiate their hunger for knowledge.
Steiner said German educational institutions are getting good flow of foreign students as manifested from the fact that the percentage of foreign students have increased from 25 per cent to 27 per cent this year.
"At present around 7,000 Indian students are studying in different educational institutions in Germany and we want students like those studying in Super 30 in our country," he said.
Mathematician Anand Kumar narrated him pattern of studies and higher motivational level of students hailing from poor section of the society. Steiner was very impressed after knowing that Super 30 was thriving without any aid or subsidy from government or private donations.
Super 30 has been winning laurels across the world for its wonderful track record of helping students from humble background qualify in IITs.
A total of 27 out of 30 students qualified for IITs from Super 30 in 2014. Launched in 2001, 308 students from Super 30 have made it to IITs so far. Kumar recently gave lecture in MIT and Harvard University in the US.
