German TV channel Da Vinci Learning would start broadcasting in India from early October this year.
The Berlin-based broadcaster, which is present in 35 countries, is expecting a license by the end of August this year to beam its kids knowledge channel.
"Da Vinci is expecting to get license by the end of August and after that it would convert it into a full channel by early October," Da Vinci Learning MD Mohit Anand told PTI.
The channel's core target would be children aged between 6 to 12 years and plans to concentrate initially on top 12 cities, he added.
The channel would be in English, however, it may also consider having some shows in vernacular languages.
"We are evaluating other languages for India also and would bring them closer to launch," Anand said.
Da Vinci would have a mix of Indian as well as foreign content.
"Currently, we have four shows which are shot in India. We would be adding more," Anand added.
However, he declined to share the quantum of investment which the German firm is making in India.
"We are seeing India as a huge opportunity. Its an important market for us. We know how much importance is given to education by parents in this country and we are a product of that," said Anand.
Presently, Da Vinci's content are on air through Airtel DTH under video-on-demand service.
"We would cover a host of topics, including geography, arts, science and our positioning is aimed at 6 to 12 years child. More than that it would be aimed at the entire family," Anand added.
