Chandigarh Police today rearrested the convict who jumped parole while serving life imprisonment in connection with the kidnapping and raping of a German woman in 2008.

The absconding prisoner was identified as Som Pal, who along with four others got life-term in 2009 for kidnapping and raping a German woman.

Acting on a tip-off, police spotted Pal alias Soma, who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, near a canteen at an inter-state bus terminus at Sector 17 here and nabbed him immediately.

Pal, a resident of Bihta of Haryana's Ambala district, was released on 28 days parole on August 28 this year, from Central Jail of Faridkot but did not report back after his parole ended.

Pal was produced before the Court of Duty Magistrate here and was sent to a 14-day judicial custody.

Incidentally, one month back, police rearrested Harpreet Singh, another accused in the same case for jumping parole.

The German woman, who visited India to attend a friend's marriage, was kidnapped by the five from the parking area of a five-star hotel here on the night intervening September 27 and 28, 2008 in an SUV and was raped.
