Controversial 'ghar wapsi' programme will come under close scrutiny in the meeting here next week of Jamiat Ulema-e Hind, an outfit of Muslim scholars and intellectuals.

"Despite a clear advice by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS, VHP and other similar organsiations are openly giving statements on 'ghar wapsi' and speaking on issues which spread hatred in society," Jamiat Ulema-e Hind state unit chief Maulana Ashhad Rashidi told PTI.

He said the issue will be raised prominently in the March 28 meeting here which will discuss threadbare all activities of right wing activists to spread hatred in the society.

"Such statements are being issued continuously despite a warning by Modi and this proves that his snubs are only gestures for international powers while in reality he has given them a free hand...Is this not double standards?" he asked.

Rashidi said there is no need to give a message to Muslims over 'ghar wapsi'.

"Can you make 20 crore Muslims and four crore Christians Hindus through this slogan?... This is indicative of very bad mentality," he said.

Besides, the meeting will also remind the Uttar Pradesh government as to how it has not fulfilled the promises it had made to Muslims in 2012 Assembly elections, he said.

The Maulana warned that the ruling Samajwadi Party might have to face its consequences in 2017 elections if it did not do anything for the Muslims during the remaining two years in office.

The SP had promised 18 per cent reservation to Muslims and release of innocent youths framed in terror cases but nothing has been done in this connection in the three years it has been in power, he said.

The agenda of the meeting also includes apprising Muslims of the need to remove ills prevailing among them as it was necessary to keep up the pride of the community, he added.
