Ghaziabad Mayor passes away

Ghaziabad Mayor Teluram Kamboj passed away at private hospital here after suffering multiple-organ failure. He was 76.

Kamboj died yesterday at around 9 pm at Yashoda Hospital, doctors said.

He is survived by his wife, daughter and son-in-law.

He was admitted to the hospital due to infection in his lever. Yesterday his condition deteriorated and he was shifted to an ICU, his son-in-law Pankaj Anand said.

Kamboj, who was elected as a Mayor in 2012, was given a guard of honour before his body was cremated today at a crematorium at the Hindon river, BJP councillor Rajendra Tyagi said.

His body was taken around in a funeral procession that started from his residence in Raj Nagar and before culminating at the banks of the Hindon river.
 

Ghaziabad MP V K Singh, BJP state President Laxmi Kant Vajpayee, Yamuna Expressway Chairman Santosh Yadav, District Magistrate Vimal Kumar Sharma, SSP Dharmedra Yadav, and several other leaders from all political parties along with hundreds of BJP party workers were present during the funeral and paid their homage to the departed leader.

The funeral pyre was lit by his daughter Superna Anand at around 1:40 pm, Tyagi said.

He was elected as a Mayor in the year 2012 after defeating his nearest Samajwadi Party candidate.

Kamboj originally belonged to Kairana teshsil in Shamli district.

During his school days he was associated with the Jana Sangh.

He started his career as journalist and published a daily 'Prlayankar' in Ghaziabad.
