Giani Harpreet Singh Tuesday took charge of the Akal Takht's acting 'jathedar' in a religious function organised for the coronation on periphery of the Golden Temple here.
Giani Harpeet Singh, who is currently the 'jathedar' of Takht Damdama Sahib, was appointed as the acting 'jathedar' of the Akal Takht (the highest temporal seat of Sikhs) on October 22.
The function was attended by, among others, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, Golden Temple's head priest Giani Jagtar Singh, Akal Takht's head priest Giani Malkiat Singh and Takht Kesgarh Sahib's 'jathedar' Giani Ragbir Singh.
It was also attended by Takht Patna Sahib's 'jathedar' Giani Iqbal Singh, Takht Damdama Sahib's head priest Giani Jagtar Singh and Damdami Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dhuma.
Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Board chief Manjit Singh GK and Akal Takht's former jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh too were present on the occasion.
As per the Sikh rituals, they offered turbans to Giani Harpreet Singh at the time of the coronation.
On October 19, Giani Gurbachan has tendered his resignation as Akal Takht's 'jathedar' on the ground of his failing health.
