Ginger surges on high demand, pepper ends mixed, copra steady

Ginger prices surged at the spices market here today on higher demand from stockist and millers amidst good retail offtake.

Black pepper prices witnessed a mixed pattern of trading on alternate bouts of buying and selling.

However, copra prices held stable due to lack of demand from traders amidst ample supply positions.

Ginger bleached shot up by Rs 15 per kg to Rs 160 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 145 and ginger unbleached went up by Rs 20 per kg to Rs 170 from Rs 150.

Following are today's closing rates in Rs with previous rates in brackets:
 

Black pepper (per kg) 365/415 (360/420), ginger bleached (per kg) 160 (145), ginger unbleached (per kg) 170 (150), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) closed (4,650), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 4,550 (4,550), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 6,100 (6,100) Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 5,700 (5,700).
