A 15-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and killed by unidentified persons in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana and preliminary reports have suggested that she was sexually assaulted too, police said today.

The incident occurred late last night near Barwad village of the district when the girl, a standard ninth student, was travelling with her father on a motorbike.

When they stopped near a bore-well to have a drink of water, two unidentified men caught hold of the father and beat him unconscious, while three others took the girl away in an auto-rickshaw, Ranga Reddy district superintendent of police M Srinivas told PTI.

"The girl's father lodged a complaint with police early this morning and a search was started. Her body was found around one km away from the village," the SP said.

Head injuries and strangulation wounds were found on the girl's body. Preliminary autopsy report revealed that she had been sexually assaulted too, the SP said.

The Bantaram police had earlier lodged a case of kidnapping and murder under the IPC, under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and also under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) as the girl belonged to an ST community. Later they also added IPC sections related to gangrape to the complaint.

"Five teams have been formed to nab the culprits," Srinivas said.
