Girl commits suicide after getting marks below expectation

A 16-year-old girl in coastal Konkan allegedly committed suicide on the day her class X exam result was declared, police said today.

Prachi Ghadawle was a student of a local school in Apti village in Dapoli tehsil of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra. Her mother is a labourer and father a watchman.

Prachi scored 80 per cent marks in the exam against her expectation of more than 85 per cent score and allegedly hanged herself.

"Prachi was disappointed that she got only 80 per cent marks. She expected at least 85 per cent marks," her mother said.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Monday announced the results of class X exams it conducted in March.
