An 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide after being harassed by a youth in Sachendi area of Palra village here, police said today.

As per the complaint filed by the victim's father, the accused Lalu was pressurising his daughter, a graduation student, to marry him and used to harass her on her way to college, a police spokesperson said.

He said Lalu also spread a rumour that the girl had agreed to marry him and that he gave her Rs 3 lakh for the same.

The mother and uncle of the accused also threatened the victim and her family to return the money which upset her as it was causing humiliation to them in the village, the spokesperson said.

Fed up of the false allegations, she ended her life by hanging herself last evening, he said.

A case has been registered against Lalu, mother Shailja and uncle Ramji, he said, adding further investigation is on.
