Mystery shrouds the death of a 19-year old girl, whose love with another community man was opposed by her family, as her parents cremated her today alleging that she committed suicide at Usilampatti in this district.
According to the parents, there was a quarrel between them last night and the girl took her life by hanging herself. They swiftly cremated her today.
Police said investigation revealed that the girl was found hanging. But it was not known whether she committed suicide or she was murdered and hanged by her parents in a honour killing as she loved a person from another community.
The girl was living with her lover separately after her family opposed their relationship and the parents had lodged a kidnap complaint against the man.
Some weeks ago, her parents brought her back home and were on the look out for a suitable groom from their community.
On a complaint from the Village Administrative Officer, ADSP Gopalsamy and DSP Saravanan visited the girl's house and further investigation was on.
