A 16-year-old girl enacted a drama claiming that a four-member gang had kidnapped her, tonsured her head and dumped her in a bush allegedly to get sympathy of her lover who was not in touch with her now, police said.

The truth came out when police questioned her yesterday.

Passersby, who had noticed the girl in the bush in tears with head tonsured, took her to nearby All Women police station, where senior officials including Superintendent of Police Sudhakar carried out detailed inquiry.

Police said the girl had initially claimed that she was abducted by the gang while going to school. She told police that after tonsuring her head they abandoned her in a bush.

But on further questioning she confessed that she was in love with a 21-year-old youth.

But due to some "misunderstanding" the youth was not in touch with her for the last several days. The girl also admitted that she enacted the drama to get his sympathy, police said.

The girl was later handed over to her parents, police said.
