Police has registered a case of murder against the warden and the watchman of a school hostel in Armori town near here following protests by locals after an 11-year-old girl was found dead in a well in its premises.

"We have yesterday registered an offence under sections of the IPC including 302 (murder) against the warden and the watchman of the school hostel and investigations are on. The accused will be arrested if any evidences are found against them," Sub-divisional Officer of Police Sagar Kawde said.

Trunali Mahendra Chaudhari, who was a student of Class V at Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya in Armori and resided in Indira Gandhi Girls' Hostel of the school, was found dead in a well in its premises on Tuesday.

Accusing the hostel warden and the school management of negligence, the victim's parents had refused to take custody of the body until action is taken against the guilty.

Workers of various political parties yesterday staged a 'rasta roko' and also observed an 'Armori bandh' to press for the arrest of the accused.

They also demanded suspension of Armori police station officer Subhash Dhawle, alleging that he was trying to "shield" the accused and "suppress the matter".
