A 17-year-old girl was found dead close to her house in a village near Chakan in the district, police said today.
The girl's body was yesterday found in a pit with injury marks on her face and neck near Shindegaon in Khed tehsil, a senior police official said.
According to the complaint given by her father, the victim had gone to answer a nature's call, but when she did not return home, they started inquiring in the neighbourhood.

Later her family came to know from a woman that the girl had borrowed her umbrella and gone to answer nature's call, the officer added.
"The family then started searching her and found her chappals, water container and umbrella lying in the area, meant for open defecation and later found her in a pit near a nullah with injury marks on her face and neck," he said.
He said the girl was taken to a nearby hospital by the family and villagers, where she was declared brought dead.
A case under section 302 (murder) of IPC was registered against unidentified person with the Chakan Police station, he said, adding a probe was on.
