A 20-year-old girl from Bellary district in neighbouring Karnataka was found abandoned near a roadside in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district in an injured condition, leading the police to file a criminal case against her friends.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against her friends, including two girls, today, they said.

However, police ruled out rape in the case.

The locals, after finding the girl abandoned near a roadside of a hillock in Alur town of Kurnool, informed the police who in turn got her admitted to a nearby hospital this morning, police said.

"The girl continues to be in semi-conscious condition. She has told the police in writing that she came to Alur along with four persons including her two female friends in a car and she was hit by wooden sticks and bottles on her head and pushed out of the moving car at about 8 pm yesterday," an investigating officer said.

"Medical tests were carried out if she was sexually assaulted and rape has been ruled out. However, she has suffered injuries on her head and mouth. We are referring the girl to a Bellary hospital for better treatment and also to enable us to identify her parents/ relatives," the police officer said, adding that she named two of her female friends for being responsible for the incident.

Alur police were further investigating.
