A 13-year-old girl was killed while her sister and father were injured when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a private bus in north Delhi's Burari area this morning.

The motorcycle and the bus were moving side by side. The accused driver told police that he did not realise when the motorcycle was hit by the bus, a police official said, adding it is suspected that the bus was over speeding.

The incident took place around 7 AM when Munna Lal was taking his two daughters Pooja and Shivani to the nearby Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, the officer said.

After the bus hit the motorcycle, Pooja was thrown off the two-wheeler by the impact and fell 10 metres away. The trio was rushed to a hospital where Pooja was declared brought dead, police said.

Shivani and her father are undergoing treatment and are out of danger, they said.

The accused driver, Padam Singh fled from the spot leaving the bus as he was scared that he might be beaten up. He was later arrested from Tomar Colony in Burari, the officer said.

The bus used to ferry school children. However, at the time of the accident, it was empty, police said.
