A 16-year-old girl was
allegedly raped by a jeep driver inside his vehicle in Jawhar taluka in the district.
The accused Asif Kotwal, 30, who ferries passengers in his vehicle, has been arrested for the offence that took place last Saturday, police inpsector K A Naik of Jawhar police station said.

"About 8.30 pm on May 30, the minor victim had boarded the jeep at Aptale village to proceed to Jawhar, where she lives. The girl was alone in the vehicle. Instead of taking the vehicle to the destination, the driver took a different route," Naik said.
He then stopped the vehicle at an isolated location and sexually assaulted the girl inside the jeep, he added.
The girl lodged a complaint with Jawhar police on Sunday, following which the accused was arrested.
He has been charged under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 363 (kidnapping) as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, police said, adding, the matter is being investigated.
