A teeanged girl accidentally shot and injured her mother in West Bengal's Hooghly district while playing with a gun that she mistook for a 'toy' pistol, police said today.
The woman, a resident of Khanakul Ghoshpara village has been admitted to Arambagh hospital in a serious condition yesterday, they said.
The woman, a labourer, had found the gun while working in the field yesterday. She brought it home and kept it in an almirah, they said.
While she was cooking, her 16-year-old daughter found the gun in the almirah and started playing with it thinking it was a toy gun.
The police said they are investigating the matter and also carried out a search in the field from where the woman found the gun.
