A 19-year-old girl was allegedly strangulated to death by a relative after she rejected his marriage proposal, police said today.

The deceased, identified as Neha, was alone at her home in Krishna Nagar area of east Delhi yesterday. When her parents returned home in the evening, they found her body lying on the ground with a plastic rope tied around her neck.

In their statement, Neha's parents have accused one Pappu (22) of murdering their daughter.

"They said Pappu had been stalking their daughter of late and accused him of killing her as she had refused his marriage proposal. Investigations have revealed that Pappu was the last person seen visiting the house," a police official said.

A case of murder has been registered and a probe has been initiated, he said.

Pappu was found missing when a police team reached his residence, increasing the suspicion on him, he added.
