Girl student ends life over alleged discrimination in school

A 17-year-old girl student of a government school studying in class 11 committed suicide by hanging in her house here today alleging discriminaton against girls by the institution, police said.

The body was noticed by the brother and sister of the girl.

A letter purpotedly written by the girl said she wanted to come up in life and have good education. However, teachers at the Veerapandi Government Higher Secondary School at nearby Tirupur were not responding to the doubts raised by girl students and answering to the queries from boy students only, the letter alleged.

Moreover, teachers and head mistress of had abused her for raising the matter and she was depressed over it and decided to end her life, police quoting the letter said.
 

Anandi, Education Officer, who visited the house, assured her parents that action would be initiated against the teachers, if there was any truth in the complaint mentioned in the letter.
