A 20-year-old girl, on her way to college to participate in Independence Day celebrations, died today when she fell from a running train near here allegedly after losing balance while walking towards the door, police said.
P Parameswari, a student of a government arts college in Thanjavur, was travelling by the local train when she lost her balance following a sudden jerk and fell out between Uthani and Sundaraperumal Kovil stations this morning.
Farm workers rushed to the spot and gave the girl water to drink. But the girl, who suffered head injury, died before further help could be given, police said.
